Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians.

Learning Objectives

After completing this program, you should be able to:

  • Discuss how cultural competence is important to the delivery of high-quality health care services to patients.
  • Outline the social and cultural issues that are most relevant in the care of diverse populations.
  • Communicate effectively across cultures.
  • Develop appropriate management strategies that take into account patients' cultural perspectives and preferences.
Upon completion of the course and passing the post test, you will be asked to complete an evaluation. Once this evaluation is submitted, you will be asked to print a CME letter for your records.

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation Statement
UMDNJ-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.0 category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the activity. This activity was prepared in accordance with the ACCME Essentials.

Frequently Asked Questions


Question: I forgot my password. How can I retrieve it?

Answer: E-mail QIModule@ahip.org with your User ID. A representative will reply with your password.

Question: I can register and login to course, but cannot launch the program. I get a blank screen with a red x in the corner. What's wrong?

Answer: This course requires the Flash plug-in, which is available for free from Macromedia. Please contact your course administrator if you require assistance with installing this plug-in.

Question: How can I log back into the course? I tried to register again and it said there is already a user associated with my User ID.

Answer: Once you have registered, you can visit the course again by going to the learning management system website and logging in with your organization ID and the user ID and password you created when you registered. Once you are logged back in and launch the course, check marks indicate the sections of the course you have completed.

Question: I received an error message that said the course has timed out. What should I do?

Answer: Please always log out of course by clicking the exit course button when not actively engaged in using course. If you receive an error message please exit the course and log out of the learning management system and then log back in.

Question: I exited the course during the patient case, but when I logged back in it said I hadn't done that case. Why did it forget my place?

Answer: You may exit the course at the end of the patient case by using the exit course button. If you use the exit course button while in a patient case you will need to start that case over from the beginning. If you do need to exit while in a case, you can print a transcript which would allow you to move more quickly through the steps when you return to do the case. To print a transcript just click the button labeled 'Transcripts'.

Question: I completed the course, but I am unable to print my CME letter.

Solution: Things to check

  • Did you enter all required fields in registration (designated in registration screen)?
  • Did you complete course?
  • Did you pass post test?
  • Did you complete the evaluation?
